ALMANAC-8 soccer poll

Monday October 1, 2007

The Almanac-8 ranks the top eight teams in the Southwestern Indiana area. The poll is released twice a month during the soccer season. This is the final poll as obviously the post-season tournament will determine the true #1 local team. Parentheses () indicates missing records

Rank Team Record Comment
1 (1) Memorial 14-0-3 The top-ranked Tigers are rocking tournaments in neighboring states--Colonel Classic (KY) and Quincy Classic (IL). Look for them to make a serious run at Indiana's starting this week.
2 (5) Castle 10-2-2 Castle's only blemish since the first weekend is a loss to Memorial. The Knights close a tough season with a good run and seem to be peaking at the right time.
3 Heritage Hills 13-3-1 Patriots team finishes the season with three straight wins, but the only thing that matters now is a post-season date with Castle.
4 Washington 10-6-1 The Hatchets' come-from-behind win over Harrison showed grit heading into this week's sectional
5 North 10-2-4 North has a season finale versus Castle which will be a good test. The Huskies' only true setback was at Memorial back in early September but a potential rematch looms
6 Jasper 8-5-3 Wildcats wrapped up a share of the Big 8, but real bragging rights will be on the line in the potential Jasper-Washington sectional championship
7 Northeast Dubois (8-0-3) Impressive win against Mater Dei, but will the Jeeps stand up to Washington in the sectional opener
8 Central 5-3-3 Central takes out Harrison and Heritage Hills to crack into the poll. Look for the Bears to end Mater Dei's sectional streak

Also worth noting: Gibson Southern, Harrison, Forest Park
