Conference races tighten

Tuesday September 24, 2013

The conference races are winding down and sectional draws are Friday. AlmanacSports looks at the girls standings as the 2013 season draws to a close.

SIAC

#10AA Castle and #5AA Memorial both stand at 4-0 in the SIAC heading into tonight's matchup. And while there's still games remaining, look for the winner to have the inside track on the conference race. A tie would see them level and could mean the Tigers and Knights may split the title. Memorial is looking for their 8th straight title while Castle hasn't won the SIAC in 10 years.

North and #1A Mater Dei aren't eliminated yet but need the leaders to slip up.

Eliminated: Reitz, Central, Harrison, Bosse

Evansville City

Memorial can clinch the city title tonight with a win over Bosse.

Like the SIAC, North and even Mater Dei still have a chance at the title, but with the Tigers having a game in hand it's unlikely.

Eliminated: Reitz, Central, Harrison, Bosse

Big 8

The Big 8 is a two-horse race between Jasper and Washington which will conclude tonight. If the Wildcats win or tie they'll repeat as conference champions. A Washington victory means the Hatchets will grab a share of the crown. Jasper could still grab a share, but Wildcats don't want to rely on Princeton to beat Hatchets.

Eliminated: Mt Vernon, Boonville, Princeton, Lincoln

PAC

#15A Gibson Southern is only one win away from the PAC title.

#8A Heritage Hills also controls its own destiny. The Patriots tied their rivals, the Titans, and could finish even at the top of the standings.

Eliminated: Forest Park, South Spencer

Blue Chip

Wood Memorial can defeat last year's conference winners South Knox to wrap up the Blue Chip crown.

Washington Catholic tied the Trojans, but a draw with Northeast Dubois may have cost them a share of the title.

Eliminated: South Knox
