Sectional winners crowned

Wednesday October 16, 2013

Sectional winners were crowned last weekend including some quality matches. AlmanacSports.com analyzes the brackets and takes a look ahead to the regionals.

Class AA

Sectional 31 - Castle survived the sectional of death beating North and Washington, reversing regular season losses. AlmanacSports didn't predict this one, but it's not that surprising as they were likely one of the strongest team. Once North upset #19AA Jasper in the opening round, the Knights capitalized to claim their second title in three years. Congratulations, Castle Knights!

Sectional 32 - #3AA Memorial looks unstoppable heading into regionals. The Tigers defeated Central 4-0 and Harrison 11-1 to claim its tenth straight sectional--a decade of dominance. Congratulations, Memorial Tigers!

Memorial now rematches Castle, in a game the Tigers controlled 4-0. In the other half of the bracket, TH South takes on Floyd Central.

Class A

Sectional 61 - Vincennes Rivet won their first ever sectional after posting 1-0 victories over both South Knox and Sullivan. The Patriots, who had lost to the Golden Arrows 3-6 to open their season, now move on to regionals. Congratulations, Vincennes Rivet Patriots!

Sectional 62 - #13A Washington Catholic is peaking at the right time to reclaim their sectional crown. After some early season slip-ups, the Cardinals disposed of Blue Chip rivals Shoals and NE Dubois en route to its second title in three years. Congratulations, Washington Catholic Cardinals!

Sectional 63 - Forest Park knocked off the hosts Heritage Hills in overtime to repeat as sectional champions. The Rangers had an easy time with Tell City, while the Patriots were worn down from a grueling PK shootout win over South Spencer. Congratulations, Forest Park Rangers!

Sectional 64 - AlmanacSports was wrong on this one and thought it was Gibson Southern's year. But #12A Mater Dei was too strong and their outstanding goalkeeper, Jared Schenk, stopped three penalty kicks including 2 in the shutout. The #6A Titans had an outstanding year with their only loss a tough one. This makes the Wildcats fifth straight sectional title. Congratulations, Mater Dei Wildcats!

Sectional winners pair off with Washington Catholic facing Vincennes Rivet and Forest Park taking on Mater Dei. Semifinals are Thursday with the final on Saturday
