Mid-season review

Wednesday September 24, 2014

SIAC

#1AA Memorial controls its own fate, and the top-ranked team in the state looks poised to take its 10th straight SIAC title.

North, Mater Dei, and Castle all have yet to play each other, but this is likely for 2nd place. Whoever finishes best will have to hope the Tigers slip up in the home stretch to dethrone the champs.

Eliminated: Reitz, Harrison, Central, Bosse

Current standings

City

Memorial has two games against eliminated opponents, so expect the Tigers to keep the city title.

Mater Dei and North have a lone loss to Memorial, so each will have to hope the leaders slip up.

Central has an outside chance, but the Bears would need the top four to finish 4-2. Don't hold your breath for a four-way city tie.

Eliminated: Reitz, Harrison, Bosse

Current standings

Big 8

#19AA Jasper and Washington are the Big 8. With no other conference scores reported, the results are irrelevant in the title race. Thursday's showdown will decide if the Wildcats repeat or if the Hatchets take back the title.

Eliminated: Mt. Carmel, Mt. Vernon, Boonville, Vincennes Lincoln, Princeton

Current standings

PAC

Last year's champs #6A Gibson Southern are the strongest team in the field and have no intention of relinquishing their title.

South Spencer is second in the PAC standings at 5-1. If the leaders slip up in their final two games--very possible with a tough conference rivalry against Forest Park--the Rebels are in good positiion to grab a share of the title.

At 2-2, Forest Park, Heritage Hills, and North Posey are all still alive but would need the Titans to lose both of their final matches.

Eliminated: Tell City, Pike Central

Current standings

Blue Chip

#16A Washington Catholic is 3-0-1 in the conference, and its final two games should mean the Cardinals repeat as champs.

Vincennes Rivet did the hard work of tying the Cardinals, but a loss to NE Dubois eliminated Patriots from title contention.

The Jeeps, who finished 5-1 in the Blue Chip have to wait and see if a Washington Catholic upset puts them back in the race.

Eliminated: Vincennes Rivet, North Knox, South Knox, Shoals, Wood Memorial
