Eight-man
National Championship
In 1959, there were only two known eight-man football conferences in the United
States. One was Southwestern Indiana's Pocket Athletic Conference and the other was the Bluegrass Conference in Kentucky.
The Evansville Courier helped to match up the unbeaten champions from each
conference, and on Oct. 24, one thousand fans saw the first ever Eight-man Football
National Championship Game at Rockport Athletic Field.
